Nick and Nora Made “The Thin Man” A True Movie Classic

Originally released in 1934, The Thin Man is a winning adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s best-selling novel. The movie — a breezy blend of screwball comedy and suspense — stars William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles. Married amateur sleuths, they balance their relationship with their caseload. In this first effort, the pair are thrown into an engaging murder mystery where nothing is what it seems. This debut installment spawned a number of sequels, including After the Thin Man, Another Thin Man, and Shadow of the Thin Man. The reason these movies connected with people is simple: Powell and Loy had unmistakable chemistry. That coupled with the fact that the characters — a retired private detective with a love for his wife that equals that of his fondness for booze and a rich heiress with a love for fun and a taste for adventure — resulted in true movie magic that continues to find new fans to this very day. If you’ve never seen the movies in this franchise check them out, you’ll find yourself gorging yourself on classic Hollywood entertainment!
